CONNECTION: The first level of connection is aimed at the space with similar functions on both sides of Suzhou River, connecting the adjacent air park and the outer ring green space with the south four blocks through a circular ring with trails and bicycle paths as the main points, and equating the public air space group with Suzhou River as the node, thus releasing more possibilities through the expansion of the area. The second connection lies in the waterfront space of Suzhou River. On the one hand, the land parcel passes through the road of the land parcel and leads to the coastline. On the other hand, the east-west coastline passes through different functional squares and buildings to form a continuous interface. And the circle with the strongest image also echoes the intention of Shanghai’s outer ring green belt.

LEGACY: The plot used to be a stacking area for shipping along the Suzhou River, leaving behind a large number of large-span industrial buildings with great possibility of renovation. Therefore, we have reserved several industrial buildings in the venue for use as venues. However, the site was divided into grids due to the original stack requirements, and the updated design continued the strip texture and scale of the 1970s to divide the site into blocks as a response to the site history. The original river channel in the site was also re-excavated to restore the landform.

TRANSFORMATION: There are a large number of residential areas around the plot, compared with which sports facilities and effective public areas are still insufficient. To the west of “Nansikuan” is the national sports training center, which has certain venues and outdoor venues, but is closed to residents. We hope to define the main body of “Nansikuan” as a sports park. Strip texture divides the plot into several strips. Outside the ring road is a dense medium and high-rise building circle dominated by office and commerce. The land is compact, and the falling-off type retreating platform echoes the waterscape. Within the ring belt is a sports park dominated by sports venues, which provides services for the surrounding residents together with the training ground to the west. The southeast corner is a camping site, providing auxiliary services for the site. The three form a clear strategy for space and subsequent development, and integrate the plots into the city to the greatest extent.
